New Stable for Romeo
The Rodgers Foundation provided funding for the construction of a permanent shelter for Romeo, a blind horse living at Rivers Edge Horse Rescue & Sanctuary in Newton, NJ.
About This Project
Romeo, a blind horse once living in isolation at Rivers Edge Horse Rescue & Sanctuary in Newton, NJ, now enjoys the companionship of a fellow horse in his new, specially designed stable, thanks to the successful completion of a project funded by The Rodgers Foundation. The construction of this two-horse stable, which cost $50,000, has greatly improved Romeo’s quality of life, offering him safety and social interaction, which are vital for his well-being.
The Rodgers Foundation, in its first official philanthropic endeavor, not only provided financial support for the stable but also actively engaged the community in this cause. The foundation’s team members participated in the 2021 Tri Mountain Lake triathlon in Liberty, NJ, on July 17th, facing the challenges of a 1/4 mile swim, 15 mile bike ride, and 5k run. This event, a first-time experience for many participants, helped raise awareness and garner additional support for the project.
Generous donations from individuals and businesses played a crucial role in bringing this project to fruition. The compassion and commitment of the community have made a significant difference in the lives of Romeo and the other rescued horses at the sanctuary.
The Rodgers Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to this project, helping to transform the life of Romeo and providing a beacon of hope for animal welfare. Your support has not only given Romeo a new lease on life but also set a precedent for future charitable endeavors by The Rodgers Foundation.

About Rivers Edge Horse Rescue & Sanctuary
From www.riversedgehorserescue.org: Rivers Edge Horse Rescue and Sanctuary is a struggling 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, owned and founded in 2010 by Diane Romano-Potocki. Diane is dedicated to the health and welfare of abused, abandoned, and unwanted slaughter-bound horses. She provides them with a sanctuary where they can live out the remainder of their lives with dignity and peace at a loving and caring facility. Ultimately, the goal of the sanctuary is to rehabilitate the horses to a healthy, happy condition and provide them with the daily feed, exercise, therapy, general care and medical treatments they need. To achieve that goal she must bring the farm back to full working condition. A working horse sanctuary provides an opportunity for bonds to form between these beautiful gentle animals and the community of people who generously support the sanctuary. Eventually, Diane would like to help children by using the horses for equine therapy. She is willing to share her knowledge and love for horses with those who are willing to take the time to care.
